I have been thinking the same thing, Rootburn did an excellent job of opening this can of worms. I see this everywhere. Prior to the digital revolution the TV remote
kicked the ball off in this game. A constant flurry of images via the remote, impatient irritated mind looking to massage itself somehow. Now along comes the PC and it races even faster, it cannot linger it jumps arpound like a drop of water on a frying pan. The answer I hope is obvious…. a return to sustained awareness and being
in the moment…. receptive to the mystery.
Great post Lorbus, and nice thoughts Jim. I think we all feel this way. It’s like we were constantly hungry people who have suddenly been presented with an unlimited feast. *Of course* we’re going to pig out! As Jim says, I hope we can turn away from gluttony. Personally, I’m glad I can choose whether or not I want to do so.
Excellent comments guys!
We can barely comprehend what it’ll be like 20, 30 years down the line. We are currently at the knee of the curve in terms of accelerating technology, and our ever growing HD helps us to keep more things. What we need now is a good way to organize all of this: as an example, my photo collection keeps growing and the clunky interfaces of photo album programs don’t help much. Software is what is holding us back. Once a good interface is established we’ll be able to comprehend more. And yeah, frequent “live the moment” vacations will keep our heads cool.
