Colored Slit
In Space Odyssey 2001′s travel scene, you can watch some of the most amazing visuals ever put on the screen. Note that this is waaay before the age of computers for CGI… The technique is called slit scan and it entails moving a picture behind a slit through which the images is filmed frame by frame. An enterprising hacker put together some software to “decode” the images Kubrick used for the scene. Eureka!
