There goes my respect for the man… Deconstructing Roy Lichstenstein is a vast archive of the comics Lichstentein plundered to further his art. Hey, I’ll be the first one to defend remakes etc… But this guy’s creativity consisted of finding things to copy.
I’ve mentioned before: every culture has it’s customized trucks. A collection of Pakistani trucks, full of details and color…
I am just wondering how much fuel is spent in pushing fancy, colored parts around the world. We need carbon fiber after market parts for the masses!
Awe-inspiring galactic collisions, by Martin Watt.
Dynamics of Galaxy Interactions by Joshua E. Barnes.
New Galaxy Collision Movies by Chris Mihos and Sean Maxwell.
This Argentinian family photographs itself every year at the same date. Time goes by, and so do hair styles. I’ll probably try this when Fiona is born!
Pablo Castillo puts together some amazing insects made out of found parts…

This is one clever use of Google’s image search. A grid of images is presented to you, guess the word they all have in common. Guess the Google. Fun…
Marcel Duchamp, the father of everything would have loved this excellent take on his readymades.
This is as bad-ass as you can get. Frankie Flood makes the most amazing and exaggerated pizza cutters. Nice Overkill.
So where is the post about the Salone del Mobile?
Here it goes…
I took about a million pictures of things I though were cool at the moment. Now three days later I can’t remember a single object! There wasn’t a single memorable piece for me. It seemed as if all furniture companies were run by the same art director. Everything looks the same. Most stands had a damask motif throughout and everything is made with shiny lacquered boxes.
Thats it. I’m tired of this. I know all these companies want to play it safe. They wanna sell, they wanna please. They come up with this bland, stylish idea of design. Where is the innovation? The new materials? Research is what made the “Made in Italy” known the world over in the 60’s and 70’s.
Now, everybody is running for the shelter of the short term return. Nobody is investing, and we all know that the best time to invest is during a crisis. Yep, that’s what they were calling it a year ago, a crisis. IKEA and China are taking over!
Good!
Survival of the fittest has served humanity well. I hope all these mediocre companies burn, and we can get some people to start thinking about objects in a new way…
Otherwise I’ll have to move to the Netherlands.
If you still want photos, go to Designboom.
