Flashing Beatles

Very good looking Come Together video made in flash. I am sure we’ll start seeing more of these videos around. Click on it, and access karaoke mode!

Flying Sticks

Closeups of an insect one hasn’t had the chance to admire much…the firefly. When you see them this close the details just pop off the page! Fragile little flying machines.

Sand Hopping

90 Sols in 90 seconds…watch Spirit and Opportunity roll around Mars in these composite videos. Awesome! (5MB .Mov)

The Spark

Are you fascinated by electric arcs? Just take a look at this video…

Go Faster!

Onomatopoeic speed and power!

Bent Wire

Ever wondered where the fabulous and simple paper clip comes from? Office museum has an excellent website telling the story behind it and the different models that have been designed.

Warped Hand

As a big fan of optical illusions I’d say it doesn’t get any better than this. Shroom-free tripping with a spiral…

Xtra Large

File too big for email? Try YouSendIt…

Reverse Madness

Musicians sometimes hide messages in their music that come out when played backwards. Called back-masking, it is probably a load of shit, but fun nonetheless. Stairway to Heaven is by far the best, and I should say that I like it better than the original…Britney not wanting to be left behind hid some nasty lyrics in there as well. TalkBackwards offers an online service where they reverse any audio file you upload…So go and find the satanic messages your favorite band has to offer!

Fluid Dynamics

Watch a cornstarch mix dance to the beat of Faraday waves! (3.8 MB)

Happy Lights

Turn your TV into a disco light show with Groovetube!

Ornametal

You have to give it to the guys at VRBANUS in Croatia for what could be the most detailed bug ever…

Breaking The Code

Kryptos is the name of a sculpture located in CIA’s Headquarters since 1990. It has a code consisting of approximately 2,000 alphabetic letters. The first 3 parts were broken and the last 97 letters remain uncracked…and the artist won’t say a thing. Elonka has a huge amount of info on it, go there and see if you can crack this enigma….by the way the CIA and the National Security Agency have had no luck so far…

The Valley 2

Here is the view towards the north…Ahhh..even better!
One of the best things about Caracas is the Avila. It’s highest point is 2.765 mts, and its a trekking paradise. (I once climbed the 2.640 mts to the Pico Oriental)!
On top of one of it’s peaks theres the Hotel Humboldt, with a lavish 1950′s International Style interior. You can get there by taking cable-car. The view is simply breathtaking as you can both see Caracas on one side and the Caribbean sea on the other.

Fast Car

This is a cart used for pulling airplanes at the Maiquetia Airport in Caracas…Just imagine for a second that it has a jet engine and you race several of them against each other…forget F1!

Heladerooooo!

In Caracas you can still find walking ice cream vendors. There are two mayor brands of ice cream there and each plays their own theme song, so you know when your favorite is in the neighborhood.

Driving Billboard

In Venezuela, sometimes you can’t complain through regular channels…so creativity comes into play to get some attention. This car was driving around with what translates as: The British Council Ripped Me Off!

Mellow Yellow

Nothing beats the mysterious lights and shadows that can only come from your grandmother’s house…

Nice Little Car

Found this perfectly well kept 1957 Volkswagen beetle in a dealership, nice ha?
By the way thats my mother in the background!

The Valley

This is the southward view of Caracas from my mom’s new apartment…very nice…On the north it is even better because there is a huge mountain (the Avila), which I’ll post later.

Trip

It’ll be a slow week here at lorbus.com
I am going to Caracas, to help my mother pack her things and move in to a new house…So take care, I’ll be back!

Roll Your Own

The Bus Ball…

Fever Dreams

Continuing in the vein of “painters of the weird I’d love to own” is Ray Caesar. Dark mystery surrounds the surreal. An interesting thing is that the paintings are entirely digital…

Avoiding The Crash

You are flying at 30.000 ft. and the captain and the whole crew die…you got to land that that 747! Here are the instructions.

The Face

Remember my post on steganography?…The one on hiding a file inside another file?
In his 1999 Windowlicker EP, Aphex Twin hid his own face inside the music. This website explains the process behind it, and shows you how you can reproduce it (I did it, and it sure is worth it). Ohh, and by the way, the CD kicks ass!

Amongst The Olive Trees

Ahhh… Juanco, Fabiana, Mitla and I had a great picnic in Sirmione on the shores of Lago Garda. Lots of cheese, prosciutto, and wine. No group photos.
This is the view from picnic ground zero.

…And this is the castle an extraordinary… it is surrounded by a moat that connects to the Lago di Garda.

Behind the Screen

Have you ever seen 2001 A Space Odyssey? I have…plenty of times. Every time I see it I gather something new from it. I’ve read countless websites dedicated to it, and still find it fascinating. Kubrick2001, a flash animation that explains most of it in a very simple yet efficient way…very good. (via Ritilan)

Since we are on the subject of Kubrick’s work and genius, don’t miss out on this excellent Guardian article of how rich was his research…and another on the biggest film he didn’t make.
