When Super Mario Bros. first came out I was hooked and would play with my sister for hours on end. I clearly remember the day I finally finished the game. Yeah!! The Princess has been rescued! I am feeling a bit nostalgic….Make some Nintendo Paper Models. Print, cut , glue, enjoy. (via KoKoRo)

Phone Home

War, differences between cultures, mass criticism, hunger, genocide, will disappear when the aliens arrive! That’s right…All the differences and prejudices will vanish with the coming of a foreign civilization, specially if it is violent. Just imagine for a second that an unexplainable being who communicates who knows how, thinks different (not like Apple), and behaves in an unpredictable way, arrives at our little planet. People would freak-out! The world would hug each other…What’s a little different color of the skin and religion mean when you got a two headed poison spitting color changing freak to worry about? So yes…give peace a chance and let them come!

Just the Facts

2003/11/24

When I was a kid I was really fascinated by the paranormal, aliens, etc…I read countless books on the Bermuda Triangle, The Pyramids, Stonehenge, Atlantis, etc…I believed almost everything I read! Now, older, wiser, I’ve become something of a skeptic. You have to try hard to convince me of the “facts”. The Skeptic’s Dictionary is where you can info on how these things can be explained. By the way, read the next post…I do believe in aliens!!

Eyeglasses have changed little in the past 80 years, so I am really happy every time a new method that holds lenses to your eyes comes along. I know that most of these new ideas are not a real improvement over the behind your ears type, but at least they try! Parasites cling to your face, like a parasite! (great phrase, isn’t?)

Cut and Paste

Collage Art always looks the same…but, Tom Nick Cocotos has matured this technique into a complex yet highly expressive medium. Portraits with severe changes in scale convey cartoon quality while retaining the real-ness of photos. I wish I could have mine made!!

Fix It

2003/11/20

As an Industrial Designer you are always on the lookout for how things work, or how they should. There are too many badly designed things around us….This is Broken is a website dedicated to things that are…hmmm, well; broken and/or don’t work well. Anyone can submit photos/text and give an opinion of how it can be improved and fixed. Let the critic inside you loose!

Watch the solar system in 3D and navigate it from any point of view. You will need the Anark plugin which installs automatically. This is a combination of some of my favorite things: Space and 3D!

Exposure is a big a word, not because of the risk of it happening, but because it is there waiting to be shown. Fear comes to whom it questions and a calmness follows it. Burden moved, packed, and stored away. Scared of writing I find myself wishing for the boundary to break, and set free the flow of things to come.

Nature Calling

Do you know what a million trees look like? With Speedtree’s software you can render a million trees in real-time. I tried it out yesterday and ended up spending way to many minutes lost in 3D forests. After your done with your picnic try out the Valley. It is sublime, even the grass blades move to the wind!

Behind the Median/Blur

2003/11/13

Every single image from ads, TV, magazines, etc…has been retouched to the point of perfection…or should I say imperfection? Everything goes through the eye of a meticulous Art Director that can not bear to see a scratch, discoloration, random fluctuation. Nothing can be beyond their control. I remember one time seeing my cousin Dushan do Photoshop magic. He used to work at a Pre-Press office and they were retouching models for a swimsuit catalog. With just a few mouse clicks, tattoos, blemishes, fat, and cellulite would disappear while I lost my naivet?. These image transformations have bled through and changed public opinion of what a body or product looks like. It’ll only get stronger. See what goes on behind the screens. Greg’s Digital Archive has some samples of before and after retouching just roll over the images. Be amazed. Of special interest is this model.

Cin Cin!

I, like many enjoy drinking wine. The problem is I can never remember what it tastes like ten minutes later. It’s sad. I wish I could…then I could brag about a certain vintage and explain in detail what are the properties of the glass we are drinking. Now, I can! (yeah right). All I have to do is go to Woochi and get precise info on any wine. It is probably the biggest wine database in the world. Search for your favorite wine, or just surf around and learn some. Now I’ll go and pour myself a glass…

Centerfold Stacking

2003/11/06

Jason Salavon took every playboy centerfold from the 60’s to the 90’s and averaged them to form only four images, one from each decade. The result is just beautiful, and no you can’t see the naked women.
