Show Trucks
Every culture has it’s own way of customizing trucks, but I think none goes as far as the Japanese. Think mecha, transformer, robots, blade runner, and chrome lotsa lotsa chrome. Add to that a healthy dose of airbrushing, and you get the most far-out trucks you’ll ever see.

Green Design
Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) said “The best constructions for industrial design had already been anticipated in nature.”
He spent his life taking pictures of wild plants and published his most famous work Urformen der Kunst (which means either Art Forms in Nature or Archetypes of Art) in 1928 to great acclaim. His photos bring out unseen detail in plants while at the same time communicating his artistic inclination.
Pixies Reunion?
It seems that the Pixies might get together again to record something and tour…hmmm, I’d go anywhere to see them. I know that seeing them now might won’t make up for not seeing them before…but it’s the best I can hope for. Will they be like the Rolling Stones? (chills down my spine)…
Here’s what Frank Black recently said in an interview:
“I do dream about the Pixies reunion I do have to say. It?s like those schoolboy dreams when you don?t do your homework and you don?t study for the test, but I?m at the gig and we?re hanging out, but its an utter failure and I don?t know the songs, and hardly anyone turns up for the gig and people walk out. That?s what I?m afraid of, that it?d be a big, big failure.”
But he added: “We might. We do get together and have private jams together, but not for public consumption.”
Let’s just wait and see if there will be public consumption.

Mars Art
Damien Hirst will be the first artist to have his work shown in another planet. He did one of his famous spot paintings – rows of differently colored spots – that will be used as a special instrument calibration chart, on the Beagle 2.The spacecraft is expected to land December on Mars and do experiments to find out if there is or was life on Mars.

Improved Desktop
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could scroll your desktop…
Most of today’s software programs have the ability to zoom in and out and the possibility for scrolling. The desktop on your PC could surely benefit from this same idea, organizing your links and information in a more natural way. You could devote a section to your music and film. Another section could be used as your work environment, and so on, creating different positions for your different media.
With today’s desktop it’s as if we were living in a one room apartment. Which is fine, but we would be more organized if we had a dedicated area for each of the different activities that computers can handle. To navigate this expanded desktop we could have a hand like Photoshop’s and use the scrolling wheel to zoom. I know there is programs available that extend your desktop, but I think this should be native to the operating system we are using.
I kiss you…!
Do you know who is Mahir Cagri? He’s one of the most famous people on the internet. What? Never heard of him….go visit his website and learn more about him.
Synchroballistic
Angus Leadly Brown of serratedimage is a photographer based in London. Using technology developed to photograph bullets he captures the essence of skating. Skating is full of fluid movement not regularly seen in photos or video because of the speed at which the maneuvers are accomplished. He captures time and space on a same frame, giving the photos their unique look. No digital retouching or altering of any kind is used in the images!

Red Planet
In the Mars Exploration Rover Mission website you can find some amazing animations of how the rocket was launched, how it travels, lands, and how the rover rolls around the red planet. I can’t wait until January when both rovers touch down. I want to see new images of mars up close. Pathfinder in 1997 was great, but with improving technology, we’ll probably have better pictures now!!! Let’s just hope they can make it to the surface in one piece. Mars is known for its unforgivingness with landers;only three of nine tries at landing have succeeded. Keep your finger crossed.

Sunnybread
My dad recently moved to Miami, and is planning to open a bakery called sunnybread. Mitla and I are helping out with the interior design and the logo. Below are some images of how it will look like. I’ll keep you posted on new developments!
Bad Ears
Web graphics have grown better through the years as the medium has matured. Everyday you see new designs popping-up that improve on the ones they supplant. What is driving me mad is the quantity of bad music online. Most web designers think they can drop in a shitty loop and have a trendy page. Bad ten second snippets looping to infinity, or until I manage to find the very well hidden “off” button if it has one. The same principles of standards, accessibility, and communication should be applied to this music.
Make the music worthwhile or delete it!
There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom
On December 29th, 1959, Richard Feynman gave a talk to the American Physical Society at Caltech. “There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom” became known as the starting point for nanotechnology. He talks enthusiastically about the future of miniaturization: How to put the entire Encyclopedia Britannica on the head of a pin…and the problems of lubricating an engine smaller than the period at the end of this sentence.
If you like this article I recommend The Pleasure of Finding Things Out.
A great book detailing anecdotes written by Feynman. It is all written in his usual easy style. A quite enjoyable read that ranges from his time developing the atom bomb in Los Alamos, to the relationship between science and religion.
Glow in the Dark
TK-1 is a genetically modified fish that glows in the dark. No, they aren’t laced with radioactive fallout…Their bodies contain jellyfish DNA. They are being sold in pet-stores in Asia. Known as Night Pearls they were developed by HJ Tsai, a professor at National Taiwan University. He was looking for ways to make fish organs glow making them easier to study. To his astonishment the whole fish became fluorescent. They are now produced by the Taikong Corporation.
I have been waiting for a long time for things like this to emerge. This is the start of a new era of making animals and living things. We will develop organism as tools, entertainment, or for their beauty. Genetically modified animals can contaminate non modified organisms, tainting new generations.
So as a rule it would be prudent to make them sterile like they did with the Night Pearls.
Coming soon: TK-2 a mate for TK-1 that glows red!
That’s it for now…
Finished updating the template. I had to drop the other one because of the aforementioned bug. I think this one looks cool. Now I’ll get back to posting. Let the good-times roll!!!
I’ll be updating the templates!!!
Today I’ll be working on the site..be patient.
Great Graphics
I remember seeing Wired’s 10.12 cover, and thinking, “That is a great illustration!” Kenn Brown is the man behind that work. He has been published by many magazines, and you can sign-up for an illustration every monday delivered to your email. ((I did)).
This week’s image is Venice 2123. A look into what Venezia might look like in a few years.
Still working
I am still having trouble with the archives and calendar not showing the text. What a pain in the a$$. It is disappearing text bug in IE6. It is called Peekaboo, like the kids game. At least the comments are showing though. While testing cross browser capabilities I downloaded Opera. What a surprise! I have not used it much, but I can tell you that it is very fast. It loads websites faster, goes back and forth in a zip, has it’s email client on the same page.
Hey, I might turn it into my default browser from now on.
Peekaboo
I am currently trying to fix a bug. If you use IE6:
Do you see all of the text? On the comments?
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!
Orange
Did you know that carrots weren’t orange before?
Before the 1600′s carrots where purple or white. Patriotic dutch growers started breeding orange carrots in their national color. All modern day carrots are directly descended from Dutch-bred carrots. But there is new trend (marketing) to bring back the long forgotten colors!
Moving Baby!
Just finished installing and configuring my new MovableType blog. I am happy…ohh yeah!! It was a hard one to install….now all I need is to fine-tune it.
